Washington Commanders Teammate Gets Honest About 1st-Round Pick Jayden Daniels
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The 2024 NFL Draft saw the Washington Commanders finally find what promises to be their new franchise quarterback. With the No. 2 pick in the draft, the franchise selected LSU standout star Jayden Daniels. It was a move that many expected, but one that should alter the future for the Commanders’ franchise.

Throughout his collegiate career, Daniels showcased an elite ability as a dual-threat quarterback. He showed off impressive arm talent, but had the ability to make massive plays on the ground as well. Those are skills that have translated well to the NFL with previous high draft picks.

Even though he has yet to play his first career NFL game, Daniels is drawing quite a few great reviews from his Washington Commanders coaches and players. Another ringing endorsement came out from a teammate this week.

Washington Commanders Teammate Gets Honest About Jayden Daniels

Jahan Dotson, one of the team’s top wide receivers, spoke out honestly about his new quarterback. It’s clear that Dotson was hoping that the Washington Commanders would get Daniels in the draft.

Here is what Dotson had to say about the team’s new franchise quarterback following the team’s practice on Tuesday.

“Oh yeah, he’s great. I don’t know if I can say this, but that’s the quarterback that I wanted. But yeah, I was happy when we drafted him. I’m really looking forward to building a relationship with him, furthering our relationship as I’ve known him in the past. But he has been good so far. He has only been here a couple days now, but yeah, he has big things coming for him.”

During the 2023 season with LSU, Daniels put together a monstrous season. His production ended up winning him the Heisman Trophy at the end of the year. Daniels completed 72.2 percent of his pass attempts for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns, and just four interceptions, while rushing for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Those numbers show why the Commanders were excited to take him at No. 2 overall. Obviously, he still has to find himself in the NFL, but the raw talent is there for him to become a superstar at the professional level.

It has been a long time since the Washington Commanders truly felt that they had a franchise quarterback. That has changed with the selection of Daniels. He appears to be the right fit to help lead the team back into contention.
