Cleveland Cavaliers Open to Trading Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen After Second-Round Loss Vs. Celtics
David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

After just two seasons together, it appears that the Cleveland Cavaliers ‘ core is about to be broken up. This comes in the aftermath of the Cavs’ 4-1 series loss to the Boston Celtics in the second round of the NBA Playoffs.

While there have been rumors about Mitchell potentially jumping ship , it now seems that the front office is also open to the possibility of parting ways with Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen as well.

Cleveland Cavaliers News: Donovan Mitchell Out?

Multiple reports came out about how frustrated Mitchell has been with the Cavs shortly after their season-ending loss to the Celtics. To be fair, the five-time All-Star himself has declared that he is happy in Cleveland and has refuted reports about being a disgruntled superstar.

Be that as it may, this does not take away the fact that Mitchell could see himself out of Cleveland this summer if the two sides are unable to find common ground on a contract extension.

According to Cavs insider Evan Dammarrell of Right Down Euclid, the Cavs are not closing their door on potentially cashing in on Mitchell this summer via the trade market:

“If Mitchell doesn’t think the Cavaliers will help him fulfill his ambitions, multiple league sources have confirmed with Right Down Euclid the initial reporting that Cleveland will begin entertaining trade offers for him, something they haven’t done since acquiring him from the Jazz nearly two years ago

“Those same sources have confirmed separate reports that the Los Angeles Lakers, Brooklyn Nets, and Miami Heat are interested in acquiring Mitchell if he becomes available. However, a separate source shared that the Houston Rockets and Memphis Grizzlies could also be teams worth monitoring in a possible Mitchell sweepstakes,” Dammarrell wrote.

Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen on Trade Block as Well?

The Cavs have two other All-Star players on their squad in Garland and Allen, who apparently, are not near untouchable either. Dammarrell notes that if Mitchell puts pen to paper on a new deal, the organization will consider revamping their roster around him. This means that both Garland and Allen “could become available for the right price.”

Per the report, the New Orleans Pelicans, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Sacramento Kings are the three teams to watch in a potential Allen sweepstakes. Garland, on the other hand, has been linked to a move to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

At this point, it sounds like we’re all going to be looking at a very different Cavs squad in 2024-25.
