Sebastian Vettel will be present at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix which is slated to take place from May 17-19. He will be driving late. Ayrton Senna ‘s McLaren MP4/8 on the day of the race to pay tribute to the late F1 legend.

It has been 30 years since the incident that took away the Brazilian on the 1st of May in 1994 at the San Marino Grand Prix. Ayrton Senna had a horrific crash at that time but to date, he is well remembered among the F1 community. Thus, Sebastian Vettel has been given the opportunity to drive Senna’s car at this month’s event.

While talking about this honor, Sebastian Vettel had the following to share with the media.

Ayrton Senna was not only a driver who I valued highly for being one of the best racing has ever seen, but also a man of great compassion. It’s been 30 years since his accident and I would like to pay tribute to Ayrton. I will be in Imola for the Grand Prix to drive his car, the McLaren MP4/8. I hope to see you on Sunday, May 19. Sebastian Vettel told: Formula1

Vettel took retirement from F1 in 2022 when he last drove for Aston Martin. This year particularly, there has been a lot of speculation for his possible return, perhaps with Mercedes as Lewis Hamilton will move to Ferrari from next season onward. However, nothing has been confirmed yet.

Ayrton Senna’s friend opens up about losing his karting days teammate

Right before the 1978 Karting World Championship at Le Mans in France, Terry Fullerton had met Ayrton Senna, without knowing they would end up becoming karting teammates. They didn’t have a common language ground between them, but despite this, the two became good friends.

After their karting days, the two went their separate ways, and 11 years later after Senna’s fatal crash, Fullerton found the news unfathomable to believe. Even today he gets emotional talking about the horrific incident.

I phoned my brother from the boat. My brother answered the phone in tears… he didn’t even speak, so I knew what had happened. That was that. It was a hard thing to accept that Ayrton had died. Nobody had died in a Formula 1 car for about 10 years. It was a shocking weekend for everybody. Terry Fullerton told: Formula1

After F1 lost Senna in the accident at the age of just 34, the racing world was never the same. The legacy he left behind will always be remembered and honored, however, the void he left that day will never be filled. During his career in F1, he amassed three world championships.
